Anomaly Detection during Thermoplastic Composite Infusion: Monitoring Strategy through Thermal Sensors

Vacuum assisted resin infusion (VARI) processes are widely used for the fabrication of large composite parts. For some years now, wind blades designed with thermoset materials, however, recyclability is often missing brick. The recent advent thermoplastic materials such as ELIUM©, developed by ARKEMA, shows possibility to consider manufacture very parts turbine recyclable constituents [1]. French institute IRT Jules Verne leading research project ZEBRA, a consortium industrials, focusing on different thematics manufacturing blades, including process monitoring. In objective evaluating anomaly detection during ELIUM© process, an test bench was developed, equipped sensors infrared camera, thermocouples and heat flow sensors. this work, thermal evaluated study several scenarios plates fabricated under conditions material parameters. Artificial anomalies imposed into evaluate potential these detect induced disturbances. A numerical modelling compared sensor outputs achieve better understanding effects observed process.
